Forward-thinking London artist J Appiah has returned with the new single, ‘ONE THIRTY AM.’. It’s an impressively eclectic track, opening with slow, meditative synths that underpin a thoughtful vocal, before expanding to allow the influence of jazz to inflects the drums and the harmony. Finally, the track bursts into life with a cinematic, yet club-centric climax underpinned by the percussive influence of J Appiah’s Ghanaian roots. He describes the track as “a bit of a toxic love song…it’s about dancing through the madness. The rhythms embody the tick of time's clock, narrating the complexities of all sorts of relationships against a backdrop of tired nights. It reminds me that we’re all just doing the dance.” Part one of his EP, That’s The Thing About Time, drops later in 2024. -Dan Peeke
